HORSES: gotta love them! Find out more at Horse Science on May 17!

Horses and humans have been friends for a long time... around 4000 years! They are both majestic and approachable, and kids of all ages are drawn to their beauty.

There are lots of fun things to know about horses. They are mammals (warm blooded) and herbivores (they eat plants!), they can weigh anywhere from 120 to 2200 lbs and they have about 205 bones in their skeleton! Did you know that horses can sleep both standing up or lying down?

Horses have bigger eyes than any other mammal that lives on land, and because their eyes are on the side of their head they are capable of seeing nearly 360 degrees at one time.

Here are some horse "names" to know: a male horse is called a stallion. A young male horse is called a colt. A female horse is called a mare, and a young female horse is called a filly.

You know that ponies are small horses (young ponies are called foals), but did you know that they have shorter legs, thicker necks and shorter heads? They also have thicker manes and tails than horses. Ponies are actually stronger than horses, and they need half the food that a horse would if it was the same weight. And... miniature horses are even smaller than ponies!! Don't you just want one??!!!

Horse Science
Friday, May 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

This is equine country, so we should know more about them other than the fact that they run fast and are beautiful! We'll have round up time for kids who bring their own stuffed or model horses to show. Feel free to wear your cowboy hat and boots.

Pocket, the mini horse, will be in the house for you to meet and love, and there will be saddles, equipment, vet supplies, skeleton bones, and MORE for you to explore and enjoy! Tickets are $5 per person. You may want to purchase them over the phone in advance to be sure we are not at capacity... call 951-308-6376. Please remember that tickets are not refundable or transferable to a different date.

(Thanks to Temeku Equine, Dr. Jeff Moss, Green Acres Ranch for all your help, and special thanks to Nicole Renee Koch for the beautiful photograph!)

Pennypickle's Favorite Coin Party
Friday, May 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

It is 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper. Can you guess what it is? We'll learn about 'em, do experiments and games with 'em, and generally celebrate our favorite little monetary value!

Bring some to share with Professor Pennypickle... they will be used to benefit additional programs and events at the Workshop. There will be some fun surprises tonight!

Monday Madness
Monday, May 27, all sessions

The Workshop will be OPEN this Monday!

Being Dr. Who
Friday, May 31, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

TARDIS - Time And Relative Dimension In Space... Dr. Who's vehicle to travel through space and time is something Professor Pennypickle is very interested in, and we bet you are, too! We'll explore this classic character and his quirky science tonight so you and your kids can become fans (if you aren't already). Daleks are NOT invited!!!
